This week has been filled with many exciting Christmas festivities. We have been down to the Church on Wednesday morning with KS1 and Early Years to listen to the story of Christmas, be involved in some wonderful crafts and the singing of hymns. We then returned back at school ready for our Christmas lunch. Thursday saw us wearing our best Christmas Jumpers to celebrate Christmas jumper day!
Writing
In Writing this week the children have finished their hot writes surrounding Geography – the capital cities or countries of the UK. They were able to research their own images on iPads to discover what landmarks and places look like in order to include them in their writing pieces. Towards the end of the week the children have been looking closely at their next unit of work – which is a warning tale. They have been shown the model text and have also begun to map these.
Maths
This week the children have been looking at arrays as a recap, sharing and grouping and the 3 times table. As we have now moved on to our Multiplcation and Division unit it would be the perfect time for the children to be practicing on TTRockstars or Hit the Button (which is a free online game to support in children’s knowledge of their times tables) – The link for both of these websites are below if you need quick access to them.
Geography
This week we have been focusing on Compass directions. The children are already aware of the four main directions of North, East, South, West (Never, Eat, Shredded Wheat). However, as they are now in KS2 they are asked to learn the four remaining compass points of North-East, North-West, South-East, South-West. The children then, using a map of the UK with different cities on, compared the direction of places to Northampton.
