Welcome back!
In our History lessons, we’ve dived into some truly captivating discussions about the remarkable Mary Seacole and her unwavering belief in the healing power of traditional remedies for soldiers. We engaged our senses by smelling, feeling, and even dissecting the very plants she relied on, allowing us to imagine what it must have been like to use them for comfort and recovery. Interestingly, lemongrass emerged as a favourite among many children, praised for its sweet and refreshing aroma. They shared how it lifted their spirits and provided a delightful distraction from feeling unwell, especially if they were a soldier. In contrast, ginger, aloe vera, and garlic didn’t quite capture the same enthusiasm.

This week in science, we’ve embarked on an exciting journey into the world of germination and the fascinating life cycle of plants. Our focus is on observing and describing the incredible transformation of seeds and bulbs as they grow into vibrant, mature plants. We’ll delve into the essential needs of plants, discovering how they rely on water, light, and the right temperature to flourish and thrive. On Wednesday, we took a hands-on approach by planting our very own broad bean seeds in plastic bags on the windowsill, eager to see if they can sprout without soil. From our previous explorations in Reception and Year 1, we know that water and light are crucial for their growth. Over the next six weeks, we’ll be closely monitoring our little green experiments to see if we can nurture a healthy bean plant. Moreover, we’ll uncover the vital role of pollinators in the plant life cycle and their contribution to the growth of delicious fruits and vegetables. This hands-on experience will not only deepen their understanding of biology but also ignite a passion for nature and gardening.

This week in Computing, we’ve embarked on an exciting journey into the world of technology, discovering how computers can be powerful tools for gathering, displaying, and sharing information. We took a fun approach by collecting our own data to answer the intriguing question of which fruit reigns supreme as the favourite. Next week, we’ll dive into the art of presenting this data digitally, transforming our findings into engaging visuals.
