Week Beginning 10th March
This week the children have been thinking about adapt and change for National Science week. We talked about camouflage and how animals & insects use this to protect themselves from predators. The children played a game with woolen caterpillars, hiding them for people to find – some were very well camouflaged and were not spotted until a day later! The children also took part in a junk percussion workshop where they had great fun creating sounds and music out of cans, bags, bottles and other materials – the sounds were amazing to listen to.
Maths
The children have been building the numbers 9 and 10 this week, looking at the composition of these numbers using ten frames, counters, pictures and numicon.
Literacy
The children have continued to work on the story of Jack and the Beanstalk. We mapped the story together, creating a story map for the classroom and some children chose to draw their own. They were also given the challenge of creating an egg holder for Jack to carry the golden egg in. They could use any of the resources in the classroom and they came up with some imaginative ideas.
Next week we will be looking out for the signs of spring. The children will show their understanding of Jack & the Beanstalk by ordering the key events and writing simple sentences. In Maths the children will be securing their counting knowledge, looking at number sequences and identifying missing numbers. On Thursday they will continue to take part in tennis coaching, please ensure their PE kits remain in school for this. Friday is Comic Relief day and the children are welcome to attend school wearing something red/ mufti.
