Week Beginning 4th November
It was lovely to see everyone back in school after the half term break.
This week the children have been learning about the festival of Diwali and they made their own paper plate Divas.
Literacy
The children came into school to find a vegetable in the Curiosity Cube. They had lots of suggestions as to what it could be including a radish, potato or coconut. Eventually we arrived at the conclusion that it was a turnip! The children then began to learn our new class story which is The Enormous Turnip. They added actions to the story and began to think about the order of the characters as they appear.
Maths
This week the children have been using the words ‘whole’ and ‘parts’. First they looked at parts of toys that can be put together to make a whole model. Then they thought about the parts of their bodies using stem sentences such as ‘my nose is a part of me but the whole of me is Harriet’. The children then moved on to looking at the parts of the numbers 2 and 3.
British Values
Our new British Value this term is respect in particular mutual respect. We focussed on treating others as we want to be treated and talked about sharing and taking turns. The children are very good at using the sandtimer to aid taking turns and patience whilst waiting. We also talked about taking turns to talk and showing mutual respect by not interrupting & talking over people. We will continue to look at this and remind the children.
