Starting School and Moving On
Admissions
- Our current standard admission number is 25. We can accommodate up to approximately 175 children all together, depending on the age and pupil distribution across the school. We accept children in the main school from the September following their 4th birthday, until 11 years old.
- We also accept children to our Pre-School from the term after their third birthday. Please visit Explore our Early Years section of the website to find our more, click here.
- Parents wishing to apply for a place at our school should contact school admissions at North Northamptonshire Council https://www.northnorthants.gov.uk/school-admissions. Our admissions policy follows the Local Authority guidance where children with a statement of special educational need who express a preference for our school and children looked after are given priority followed by those children living in the local area.
Starting School
- Parents considering which school to apply for can attend an Open Day in the autumn term or may make an appointment to view the school. We offer tours on specified dates which are advertised during the autumn term. Attendance on the tours should be booked through the School Office however if you are unable to attend any of these please contact the School Office in the first instance.
- In the term before children start school, we hold a ‘New Intake’ meeting with all parents to help prepare for admission. At this meeting parents receive an induction booklet containing additional information. Children attend induction sessions in July, to meet staff and to help them to feel comfortable about their new school. A meet the teacher event takes place early at the start of term to talk about the class and the expectations for the year.
Transitions within school
- We are aware that moving between key stages, even within the same school, can be an unsettling time for some children and parents. Therefore, at the end of the academic year we ensure a thorough handover between teachers to allow for a smooth transition. There will also be an opportunity for the new teachers to introduce themselves to the children and parents, including ‘Transition Days’ where the children spend time in their new classes. We may mix the classes up between year groups in Key Stage 2, this allows children to develop a range of friendships and also to allow us to find the right mix of children to ensure optimum learning can take place.
Moving on to secondary school
- At the end of Year 6, (aged 11) children transfer to secondary school. Bozeat is in the catchment area for Wollaston Secondary School, with which we have close links. Parents will receive all the information they need in the autumn term preceding transfer to help make choices. All local secondary schools hold open evenings for prospective students, usually in October.
In Year admissions
We also welcome applications from children transferring into our school outside of the application window. Viewing the school prior to any application is recommended- an appointment can be made by contacting the school office.
Applications can then be submitted via the Local Authority admissions portal https://www.northnorthants.gov.uk/school-admissions. Our ability to admit pupils is subject to spaces being available in the required year groups.
